Compare and contrast atoms, isotopes, and ions? ?

I have to take a writing essment for chemistry tomorrow and one of the questions on the study guide is "Compare and contrast atoms, isotopes, and ions in terms of subatomic particles (be sure to include atomic # and m)" and this doesn't make any sense to me. Can you please explain and help? Thank you!
