Why do people believe the false two party republican/democrat paradigm?

Maybe that was a typo but your question implies that the USA is the whole of the western world. It most certainly isn't, and if you meant it, it is most insulting of you to do so. Here in the UK we have most definite differences between our parties so none of this applies.
